I was allergic to chicken and other fowl, chocolate and animals like cats, dogs, etc. They became less severe after puberty but I still pretty much avoid the foods. I've been able to play with dogs and cats with no ill effects however. After the allergies were gone, however, I started feeling the physical and psychological symptoms of hypoglycemia. I felt extremely tired after exercising, which made it difficult to stay on a regular program. I also felt tired after long sessions of studying or hacking, and I had mood swings bordering on manic depression. Just recently I read the book "Hypoglycemia: The Disease Your Doctor Won't Treat" by Jeraldine Saunders and Harvey Ross. I found that my symptoms matched the ones they described and immediately started following their dietary recommendations. My physical and mental state has improved tremendously since then. No more tiredness, mood swings, etc., and I've even lost weight. I also started riding my bicycle regularly which has probably helped too; but I can now exercise without feeling sore, tired or dizzy. I really can't express how much my life has improved since changing my diet; it's like the difference between night and day. It has required many changes to my lifestyle: almost never eating out, packing my "lunch" every workday, no drinking, etc.; but I know that I'll never go back to my "evil ways" because my feeling of well-being is so great that I don't want to give it up. Another interesting book I'm reading right now is "Diet For A Poisoned Planet" by David Steinman. It points out the foods that are contaminated with pesticides and industrial or natural pollutants and harmful additives. Most of these poisons are linked with physical and psychological problems galore. After reading about your experiences, Cyndi, I recommend that you read this book and try cutting down on any "red light" foods that you're eating, and see what happens. You may be eating something that doesn't provoke an immediate obvious reaction but is nevertheless harming you. I'll be on vacation until January 8th, so don't expect any responses until after then. Wish you all a happy and healthy new year! Jorge
